Discover Gliding, the purest most natural way to fly
Anyone can learn to glide, there is nothing stopping women taking up and excelling at the sport. For some it can be for the pleasure of soaring over the local area, others enjoy flying cross-country, or in competitions, or at different sites in the UK and elsewhere. It can also be the basis for a career in aviation. One of our current women members is an airline captain with decades of experience, another is currently taking her first steps with applications to pilot schools.

During this event we will have the following activities and offers available.

  • a trial lesson in a two-seater dual-control glider with one of our fully qualified instructors
  • a session in our glider simulator
  • a visit to the launchpoint to watch the action – bring a picnic and enjoy a day out
  • Refreshments, gliding info and discussion in our clubhouse briefing room

    How much will it cost.
Entry to the event, presentations by club instructors and some refreshments are all free of charge.
There is a large free car park.
A Trial Lesson (optional) in a dual control glider can be taken at a discounted rate of £99 – usual price £140

At Booker we launch gliders by towing them into the air with a power plane. After releasing the glider from the tow, the pilot learns to read the sky to find rising air in which to climb. Glider pilots can stay up for hours and fly long distances – 300km on a summer’s day is common – making use of the energy Nature provides for free. The minimum age for solo is 14, there is no upper age limit, just the requirement to be able to climb in and out of the cockpit.
